Enemy Territory: Quake Wars - Insights, Analysis, Intelligence
Valley - Detailed Walkthrough:
Valley is a straight-forward map consisting of 4 phases:
- Construct Bridge
- Escort MCP to the Outpost and launch the SSM
- Hack the Shield Generator
- Destroy the Contaminator
From their intial spawn at the GDF Base, the GDF have several options. GDF Engineers can make the short direct run to the Bridge build site to start working on the two-stage construction. Each construction stage takes 13-14 seconds of building to complete and it will be easier to get build progress at the beginning of the map before the Strogg defense gets set up. Supporting players can push across the gully on either side to secure the GDF's side of the tunnel. Alternatively, GDF players can exit the base to the left and grab a Platypus to make a waterborne assault on the far side of the tunnel. Extra GDF Engineers
, with nothing to do, can also construct the Bridge Guard Tower to create a base of fire, from which to support the build progress.
Phase 1 ends when the Bridge is constructed by GDF Engineers
. Upon completion, the MCP will deploy on the road outside the GDF Base.
This screenshot shows you the paths, which bypass the tunnel hill. With some careful driving, GDF vehicles can navigate these paths to flank the Strogg defenders. The Platypus boat can also drop GDF Players anywhere along the water's edge. The tunnel itself has access passages built into in on the left and on the right.
The GDF must escort the MCP through the tunnel and to the Outpost on the other side. Any GDF player can drive the MCP and control the co-ax GPMP. Another GDF player can jump into the turret and main the Gatling Gun. If the Strogg manage to disable the MCP, you will need GDF Engineers
to repair it. The Tunnel Spawn Point is near the Strogg side of the tunnel, to the left. GDF can also gain access to the Spawn Point by attacking via the Tunnel Side Entrance that is next to the dirt paths.
After you exit the tunnel, the GDF must escort the MCP down the road, make a slight left turn, and then drive to the pad in front of the Outpost. Once delivered, the MCP will automatically fire an SSM, marking the end of Phase 2. Once the Outpost is captured, this becomes the default GDF spawn. From the Outpost, the GDF will be attacking the Shield Generator and then the Contaminator, which are located across the bridge.
In addition to the spawns near each objective, the Strogg can choose to spawn at the Domination Hub for extra vehicles and access to quick routes to either the Outpost or the Shield Generator/Contaminator area.
As the GDF cross the bridge to the Shield Generator and Contaminator Building, they will pass the Bridge Guard Tower on the right hand side and the Reservoir Spawn Point to the left, on the far side of the bridge. You can also see the Sewer Grate off to the right. The Sewer Grate can be blown up by a GDF Soldier
and provides for an underground route to both the Shield Generator and the Contaminator Building.
Close up of the Sewer Grate. From here, you can also see the footbridge below the main bridge. Players can use this footbridge to cross the water unnoticed. Ladders in each tower connect the lower route with the main road.
Astute players may recognize that the Sewer Grate can be blown up at any time, even during Phases 1 and 2, which may provide for an easy plant if all of the defenders are focused on the Bridge or the MCP, and map provide for a nice sneak route for Phases 3 and 4. Also, spawning back at the GDF Base gives the GDF access to the Platypus which is the fastest means down the sewer tunnel vs. walking.
The Sewer leads to two exits. One, located in the small building across from the Shield Generator and another in the basement of the Contaminator Building. This second route will not be open until the SSM destroys the side of the Contaminator Building.
The Shield Generator is located across the bridge amidst a small complex of buildings. The Contaminator Building is directly across the street. The Shield Generator must be hacked by GDF Covert Ops
. The Reservior Spawn Point becomes active once the Outpost is captured, so GDF need to grab this as quickly as possible. Holding this spawn point will cut the travel time to the Shield Generator considerably and provide for multiple avenues of attack.
If the GDF destroyed the Sewer Grate
, they can take the Sewer route and emerge in the small building directly across from the Shield Generator.
Once the Shield Generator is hacked, ending Phase 3, the MCP will fire a second SSM, which will destroy part of the Contaminator Building and allow GDF access to the Contaminator located within. As the GDF push from the bridge, the collapsed portion of the Contaminator Building will face them. Climb up the rubble, and attackers will find 4 routes, 2 at the top of the pile of rubble, once up the stair well, and one going downwards to the basement. The route from the Sewer Grate will also exit in the basement.
Fight your way to the Contaminator and get a GDF Soldier
to blow it up to win the game.
